Hallows Eve & Halloween.

Saturday: Slept in until 3... as rumor has it.  (I don't quite know how these things get around).  Then headed down to the market to look around and see if I found anything worth buying.  I kept going back and forth to this one booth trying to decide if I wanted to buy these bracelets or not, but I ended up not buying them.  Rachel got the ones I really wanted anyways, and I didn't feel as hot for the other ones.  Also, I didn't know exactly who I would get them for, so oh well!  After walking around to a few stores, and not buying anything I headed back up to the apartment to make dinner.  My mom skyped me right as I sat down to eat, and was surprised that I even knew how to cook; thanks Mom.  I made for myself: shelled noodles and sauce, chicken seasoned with garlic salt, and toast.  It was good.  After dinner Rachel and I met up again and went to Starbucks to study.  We still got a lot of work done (more than we would have back at the room) except we worked for about an hour less due to an unexpected visitor.  There was a girl in there that noticed our American accents.  She told us her name and that she was from Alabama.  We asked her why she was here, etc.. and omg.  She works for ELITE (magazine) in new York!!! She is staying in Auckland because she is able to work more and build her portfolio.  We sat and talked with her for a long time, she was really cool.  And get this- she was only 19!  Traveling the world and modeling by 19, can you imagine?  So anyways, she was traveling down in Queenstown for vacation from work.  It kind of sucks because she travels and works alone.  she said she makes friends pretty easily, but in that line of business you don't travel in pairs or groups.  She said she is used to it now though.  But we basically just spent the hour sharing lives and getting to know each other.  It was really cool.  After she left, we stayed for another hour and finished working, then walked back to our rooms, where I worked on homework and studied etc etc etc until the wee hours of the morning.

Sunday: HALLOWEEN!!! It's finally here!  I slept in, once again.  Woke up, worked on speech.  and now I am sitting here.  We have church in a little while, and afterwards we are having a little birthday celebration for Caleb (Professor & Teacher's son) then following all of that we are trick-or-treating!  Just with our group of course..  but it should be fun.  I am excited for the nights activities but it just sucks, because finals start tomorrow and I still have more studying to get done.  Hopefully I will have enough time to finish it all and feel confident about my test.  I need an 86 on my test tomorrow to keep my A.  ahhhhhhh!! So we will see!

Hope everyone else is having a great day, and is having/has had a great Halloween!

Until Next Time :)

I am really not good at this updating thing.

TUESDAY:  class all day.  lame.  other than this, I do not remember what I did.  Probably was very anti-social, and did homework.

WEDNESDAY:  Last day of classes!!  We still have finals left, but no more class meetings.  Its so crazy to think that our semester is almost over.  But even crazier to think that we still have a month of "school" left, and NO more classes!  Life is absolutely wonderful.  After class, we....? Went to dinner for Laura's birthday, later that evening.  Then came back to have cake with everyone.  After this.....?  Worked on homework.  I believe this was pretty much it.

THURSDAY:  We woke up TOO early and made our way down to the college for a de-briefing.  We collected our camping gear and walked to the pier, loaded the boat, passed out on eachother during the ride, and hen woke up when we had arrived at the Sheep farm!  There were roughly 27,000 sheep and over 2,000 cattle on about 100,000 acres of green, mountainous land.  It was completely gorgeous.  A picture is worth a thousand words, but a view like that leaves you speechless.
After we arrived we collected our things and set up camp; literally.  Rachel and I set up our tent, rolled out our sleeping bags and vua-lah!  After those were set up we had a brown-bag lunch. We had some free time and then team bonding inbetween lunch and dinner. We later had dinner and then had one of the biggest campfires I have ever seen!  During our campfire we had devo (yes on a thursday night!).  Later, a lot of us hung out after that until it was time for bed.  We had a lot of fun throughout the day though, I definitely think we felt even closer after all of that.  Well, some of us.  Anyways, Rachel and I went back to our tents that night, and we slept all snuggled up i our sleeping bags.

FRIDAY: we slept SO WELL in our tents.  Well at least I did.  I was so warm, and comfy.  I definitely did not want to get out of my sleeping bag though, it was a bit cooler in the tent itself.  Although it was quite a bit cooler outside of the tent!  But can I say it looked absolutely AMAZING, the outside and the suspended clouds and the rising sun.  It was so beautiful.  After an amazing breakfast we prepared for our 3-4 mile hike. Can I just tell you that the scenery on our hike was one of the most amazing things I have ever seen.  I know it may seem like I say this a lot, and that I say everything it amazing, but once again; God blew my mind.  I will have pictures up as soon as I can.  It may be a while though!  We made our way back to home base with lunch awaiting, and we had a little free time before we had to start packing everything up.  After loading the boat we once again piled in and a lot of us snoozed... once again.  I was wiped from that hike.  Also, most of us were a bit burnt.  Since there is a hole in the ozone layer, there is only 8min until burn time.  I had sunscreen on and I still got a little pink.  Ouch.  We soon arrived back at the Queenstown harbour in what felt like minutes (it was about a 45min ride) and unloaded the boat and made our way back to our rooms.  Those of us going to Tokyo met for a meeting, I afterwards took a shower, and then Rachel and I traveled to Starbucks for a drink and to study.  I actually got a lot done!  We walked around a little afterwards before we made our way back o the apts; then it was time fore GLEE!  It was a good episode :)  After Glee I just chilled in the guys room, did a little work, goofed off a littler, did some researching for tokyo, and headed back to my apt!  Sarah and I found leftover pancakes and scarfed them down, after I made chocolate milk.  and now, here I sit!!

So basically, it is VERY late here, and I am very tired.  At least I dont have to wake up early anymore.  I was supposed to go bungee jumping...... but money decided not to allow me to go.  I am actually really upset.  But you know, I just have to let it go and look past it all.  I will have another opportunity someday.
SO anyways!  Goodnight all <3

Until Next Time.

Sunday, October 24, 2010

Wow, Its been a week. Terribly Sorry.

Tuesday: uhm, we had our Bible test.. our professor decided that he was testing us too easy because most of us were making fairly good grades, and so he made this test extremely hard.  I was really mad, because he pulled the most random questions out of the book; stuff we didnt even go over in class!  He's just a really stubborn guy, and wants to go against the grain and make us all fail.  There is hardly any compromise with this guy, if any!  ugh.. I dont want to talk about it, I'm still bitter.. I got my test back the other day and made a low C... and now my grade is a really low B.  and I am mad... there goes my all A's!  ugh.. ok so anyways.  I don't remember what else happened this day..... and neither does Michelle.

Wednesday:  We had NO CLASSES!  But instead we went to this place called Arrowtown.  It was a cute little gold mining town (well it used to be!) and we had a tour guide (he had previously talked to us before we left) who took us walking around the town, and it was the most gorgeous little town ever, I want to live there.  We saw a lot of important buildings that made up the town, a couple being the jail house and the cathedral.  He also took us to where the Chinese gold diggers lived, (like china town! haha, but not really) and we got to walk into their little houses they had and whatnot.  After our tour around the city we were free to walk around and eat or shop.. I did not do either. haha.  Got to save money!  I did however walk with a few people to the river where part of The Lord of the rings was filmed: the part where whats-her-face raced against the bad guys to take Frodo to the elf place so her father could heal him (in the beginning of the first movie).  But anyway.. OH!  There were these two guys that kind of joined our tour group, one was from England,a nd the other was from Germany.  They were pretty cool!  They walked around with some of us after our tour and we got to know them some.  The were taking their year off (what everyone supposedly does after graduating, either high school or college) and they had not come here together; they met a couple weeks before the day, and decided to travel around New Zealand together! haha.  But anyways, they were pretty cool.  Its awesome getting to meet people from different countries and getting to know a little bit about where they come from.
So after our festivities for the day we came back to the apartments, and later we had devo that night.  And it was really good, it wasn;t a traditional devo.  We started off singing, but the devo portion was: everyone came with a couple favorite verses or verses that had caught their attention recently, and we all read them for everyone.. then sang.. read some more.. idk it was really cool though, I liked it.  Afterwards I feel like I did something besides go back to my room.  But I think I went back to my room to study or something of the same equivalent  factor.

Thursday: We had classes all day.  I mailed a post card... guess who the lucky recipient is!  And I FINALLY exchanged some of my Australian money to New Zealand money.. Other than this, I have no idea what I did, because I cannot remember.  I remember Rachel and I walked around some.. anddddd.. OH!  I think that night was the night we had the lingerie shower for Andrea!  It was fun :)

Friday: Classes all day, then went with Michelle to go get her cartilage pierced!  She was having a bad day, and somewhat did it off of a whim.  Can I please tell you that she is deathly afraid of needles... this led for a very interesting time. lol... bless her heart.  The guy/owner at the tattoo parlor was so awesome though!  He was hilarious, haha.  Michelle was pretty much freakin out the same time, and he definitely knew how to lighten the mood.  He was seriously so cool though.  And at one point we said something about finding our future husbands from new Zealand.. and he goes "be careful what you wish for, my wife is English.  She came here to Queenstown for just a week for vacation and one day walked into my tattoo parlor.  Now we have been together for 9 years, and we have been married for 5, and have a two year old, and she is pregnant with another."  Can you say awwww! :)  But anywho, he was awesome.  Afterwards we walked around town for a while, went to the Salvation Army in search for long flowy skirts for SE Asia.  We will not be allowed to wear our shorts and I only really have one pair of jeans that will fit the appropriateness of the areas we will be in.  The skirts all cost a lot though.. I didnt feel like paying that much at a Salvation army.. although technically the price in US dollars was a fourth the price in NZ dollars.. oh well.  Later that night we had a presentation about international cultures and relations etc etc (was given by the president of the college here in NZ)  It was actually pretty interesting.
Friday night was fun though!  For once none of us had anything to do so Michelle, Jordan, Taylor, Marcus, Ellis, and I walked around town (the Jazz festival was going on this weekend)  We were kind of bummed because everything was pretty much done by the time we were able to go out.  So instead we walked along the water through the park and just sat and talked, but it was good just relaxing and hanging out with friends.

Saturday: Was a very very very good day!!! Where to begin!  I honestly had no work to do, which was awesome!  (I obviously could have started doing work that was due later the next week.. but of course that didn't happen).  First of all, I slept in until late.  Second, Michelle and I skyped Silvia and she told us that she was engaged!!!  Then we were sad because we were not engaged... or even dating anyone for that matter.  Third, we walked down into town, and shopped/looked around the market.  I got a few little things that I am excited about :)  Fourth, we walked just around town, and saw the sights.  haha.. Nothing we haven't seen before.  Although!  We walked to the store and bought scratch tickets!  It was fun!  haha.. it cost two dollars, and then guess what... I won ten!  Actually Michelle and I both won ten dollars.  I then got really excited and wanted to buy another one when I realized thats where people go wrong, so I stopped while I was ahead ;-)  We were lucky people that day though.  After we won ten dollars we headed back to the room.  Then it was time to get ready for Rob and Andrea's engagement party.  They had a cookout, and later we had sparkling grape juice, and cake!  It was really good, and fun.  Ellis and Barrett had a pretty hilarious improved speech, haha.  After the party we all did our own thing for a little bit.  I came back and attempted to study, and do homework.  That did not get me very far.  I soon left for starbucks with Laura, and met up with Kaycee, Angela, and Andrea.  We sat around there for a little while, then I headed back up to the room.  Now for the real fun!  The night before we had heard of a reggae band that would be playing that night, So Taylor, Michelle, Savanna, and I left to go to that, it was a lot of fun!  I love Reggae music :)  We came back by curfew.. and then a couple of us stayed up like, all night.  haha.  Not the smartest thing to do when you have to get up early the next morning!

Sunday: Woke up early.  Walked out to the bus, and set on for our four hour bus ride to Milford Sound.  We stopped halfway in Te Anau for brunch and then on our way back for dinner, and/or just to walk around. The time on the bus was either spent sleeping, talking with friends, listening to music, and/or looking out our windows at the gorgeous view!  It was so pretty, all the mountains, and sheep pastures and the lakes.. It looked like a picture, It didn't even look real.  We stopped abot twenty minutes from Milford Sound and hiked for ten minutes to an awesome waterfall.  It was really pretty.  Then we finally got to Milford Sound, which was absolutely amazing.  These jagged mountains, erupting strait up from the clear waters, with waterfalls cascading down the sides.. It was breath taking (maybe why its New Zealand's most visited tourist site and why its been referred to as the eighth wonder of the world!?)  We took a boat ride into the water around this "fjord" I think its called..  It rains at least half of all the days in a year, so as expected it was cloudy and a bit rainy, but it made the mountains/peaks a lot more mysterious and exciting.  Jordan and I discussed how we were just waiting for the Teradactils to start flying through the mist (any Jurassic Park fans out there!?)  Anyways, it was an amazing site.  I would put pictures up online ( I know, I know, I am WAYYYYY behind!)  but we are not allowed.. Here in New Zealand, you have to pay for the amount of data you use on the internet.. and we have already gone over and had to pay more money.  (This money comes from harding, not out of our pockets).  So we have been told not to upload.  lame!  But If I can get to an internet cafe or something, then we will see if I can get pictures up!  After our two hour boat ride we prepared for our trip back home.  After getting back we had church service, and then it was time to watch tv!  I mean study... or uhm.. sleep.  It was a good day!

Today/Monday!  Had classes.. then came back and took a nap.. made dinner.. now I am doing this and attempting to work on school work.  We have a movie to go to now though... ugh.  So glad I finished this; just in time!  I will hopefully update next time, a lot sooner than 7 days!

Peace to all, and to all a goodnight :)

Rainy Day Blogging

Lets see, I last let off the day before I went horseback riding.

SATURDAY:  Got to sleep in, showered, did homework, then it was time to go meet and board the bus to take us to "LORD OF THE RINGS COUNTRY"!! To journey through "middle earth"!! It was about a 40min ride out to the country and up the mountain to the Gelnorchy Stables.  Here we paid, got out boots, and riding helmet.  We then boarded back onto the bus to take us up to where all the horses are tied, this was about another 20min drive.  Along the way, though, we stopped to take pictures at different scenic points.  We were also shown areas where movies such as Xmen Origins, Wolverine was filmed!

That was definitely one of the interesting things, finding out we werent only getting to see where Lord of the Rings was filmed, but also where Xmen Origins: Wolverine, The Lovely Bones, and Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian were filmed!  Many, Many other commercials and small films have used these locations as well.. I will have pictures up on fbook SOON, I promise! :)

Anyways, We arrived and unloaded off the bus, and our guides asked us about our previous horse experience, then they assigned us a horse. My horses name was Sully!  He was precious, kind of.  He was actually a little bit slow.. But anyhow, I believe he was part draught, who had been mixed with a thoroughbred.  Not completely sure though!

Our trip started us off by walking around the main grounds and then into the woods.  The first "movie scene" we saw was in the woods when the Ring leader & Crew first began to enter the elf-haven and met The elvish people in the woods (I cannot remember names, just saw the movie a week and a half ago.. they had the queen/lady elf with long white hair..) anywho.  Thats the same scene where the Elvish man told Gimli the dwarf that anyone could hear him breathing in the woods from miles away (joke made b/c Gimli had been talking about how sneaky dwarves were in the woods, and how they went unheard and unnoticed). Also while in the woods she showed us where The Death of Boromir took place.  This is where the battle scene where the orcs came after Boromir tried to steal the ring from Frodo... (Fun Fact: The orcs during this scene were played by rugby players!  haha...)  We continued to trek through the 'golden woods of Lothlórien' then through 'Amon Hen', and then we began to see amazing views of 'Wizard's Vale' and "the mighty peak of Methedras."  It was all really pretty and cool to see where the movie was filmed.  It was also neat, having just watched the movies the previous week, recognizing the similarities, and noticing when a place looked familiar because you saw it in the movie.  We also saw the scenes used for Isengard.  I promise pictures will be up soon! haha.

On top of that they pointed out places where Xmen & Narnia were filmed.  The beginning scene in Prince Caspian was filmed right across the river bed, and it features some of the horses we rode.  Also if you remember in Xmen: Wolverine; the scene where he is.. uhm.. unclothed.. The movie crew built the whole entire farm where the elderly couple lived, this whole section of the movie was filmed there, then after the were finished they blew the buildings up.  (which took weeks to build!)  Also!  Where Wolverines wife "dies" was also filmed here..

There is just so information that I cannot really remember what all else they told us at the moment..
But all in all, it was a really fun trip!  Apart from the fact it was really windy and a little hazy it was still good.  We also had a guy (Rob) on our trip propose to his girlfriend (Andrea) on the hill overlooking the mountains.. so presh!!  and I miss Sully!  He was a good horse.

After horseback riding, and coming back home we ate at a place called Fergburger.. OMG.  One of the most GINORMOUS, BEST TASTING burgers you have ever laid hands on or put into your mouth.. it was soooooo good!  This burger had a circumference/diameter of if not bigger, then the same size of my hand.  It was HUGE, and I ate the whole entire thing... whoops!  I have pictures of this coming up too, haha.

Sunday was a relaxed day, and I honestly cant remember what I did besides go to church and study my butt off... Oh, I studied my butt off some more.  I had TWO presentations yesterday.  One was in Humanities which went really well!  My partner and I had New Zealand Culture to talk about, and we played bingo!  Later that day I had my Bible.. Ellis and I have Bible Improv at the beginning which was soooo funny.  It worked out really well!  But then after that it was information, overload time, and it was boring.. haha.  Well, I should say I was boring, Ellis spiced his parts up just a little bit.

Today has just been a day of relaxing and studying for my Bible test I have in a couple of hours.  Its raining/sleeting/SNOWING today, so there isn't much else to do but to cuddle inside.  Which I LOVE!  All I need is a fire place, and less work to do so that I could read one of my books I brought along with me.  (Which I have not started to read any of them!  ahhh.  Although I loaned two of my books out for other people to read, so at least someone is getting use out of them!  I will read a lot on the cruise..... where I will have NO INTERNET or even a phone I believe!  ahhhhh!!)

Well Its time to study some more and sip on my instant coffee :)

Peace out Girl Scout.

I want to go sky diving AGAIN & AGAIN & AGAIN!

A few things I left off about skydiving that I want to still include:
  • My Tandem Instructor was gorgeous!  and I want to marry him.  lol.
  • We fell from 12,000ft.
  • The mountains are only 6,000ft high
  • we didn't pull the chute until 5,000 ft
  • I traveled at 124mph, Terminal Velocity
  • It was cool because my tandem told me what all I was looking at, I got to see Queenstown, and the Wakatipu Basin, and the mountains, etc.  At one point I asked if the white dots on the ground were sheep, but Marius did not hear me.  So I asked again about the white spots, but before I finished my sentence he said those are sheep!  and I laughed like a weirdo and said "ha- thats funny" - good story.
I know I repeated a couple of things I had said before, and I think there are a few more I wanted to say.. but its late and my memory doesn't like me a whole lot right now.  One thing I do want to say is that I stalked my tandem and found him on facebook, and I did not add him!  BUT I found out that he was engaged, and I am super sad, because now we can't get married and have beautiful sky-diving babies.  I had it all planned out.. I would become a professional skydiver, because thats just AWESOME (I really want to be a pro skydiver, I have decided!) and then I would win him over, and we would get married, and then we would skydive together, then have "little skydivers" (tehe) and then we would all skydive, and it would be so cool.

WOW, I am a weirdo.  Ok, so anyways.  Apart from my little fantasy there... Sky Diving is AWESOME!!! and its almost all I can think about lately!  I want to do it again so bad, but I cannot afford it.. boo.

So, yesterday: nothing happened.  Like really, nothing happened.  Except for our whole suite (except Laura) stayed up goofing off until around 2 in the morning, for no reason what-so-ever.. but it was so fun!! lol.  Regretted it a bit this morning at 8 though.. ugh.

Today nothing really happened either.. I FINALLY uploaded pictures on fbook.  Two NEW albums are up right now!! I am proud of myself.

The only other thing I can think of right now to say is that I am going Horse Back riding in LORD OF THE RINGS country tomorrow!!  So that should be pretty fun :)  Cannot wait!

    Catch ya later!

    P.S. Skydiving is AMAZING <3

    SKYDIVING IN NEW ZEALAND!!

So, I failed to mention, that on Tuesday I walked with Laura after speech class into town in search of a chemist (pharmacy/drug store).  I used up the last of my mouse and hairspray in Australia- you will be able to notice my lack of having mouse & hairspray when you see the chunk of pictures when my hair is either, thrown up in a hideous up-do, braided, or straightened.  I also needed contact solution.  I finished up my big bottle in Australia and had half the amount in my travel sized bottle left.  Contact solution was 12.99.... for a 120mL bottle.. That bottle is tiny!  Granted it's not the travel size, but it's still small.  All together I dropped 30bucks on that stuff; not cool.  I then continued on to buy a $20 fleece, but its really cute and warm, and it only cost $15 in US currency!

I woke up late this morning, threw on a long-sleeved tshirt, jeans, and tennis shoes, brushed my teeth, threw up my hair, grabbed my backpack and fleece and headed along my merry way... with Laura and Savanna.  After class we had a break, and came back to the apartment, finished a little work I still hadn't finished, and went to our next class.  Today was only a half-a-day of classes, so I only had the two classes; although chapel followed. Chapel was all good and well, and then Miss Pam walks in......

[In and English Accent] "Good Afternoon, Isn't it such a lovely day outside.............. for skydiving?"

No one quite caught this last bit until....

"Alright!  The first group leaves at 120, and [name], [name], [name]........ are in the first group!"

Ok, what!? The noise in the classroom spikes with quiet questions and 'what in the worlds'.  we are just starting to figure out what is going on.

"The second group will leave at 2:20 today and ............... is in the second group."

She then repeats the same for the third group.  Everyones mouths were wide open.  Even mine, even though I had not intended to go; this was the most amazing thing ever!  Everyone going skydiving was supposed to go the following Sunday, but the weather looked awful so Ms. Pam sprang it on everyone, and said they were to go today!  Most everyone was freakin out, it was hilarious, and just plain awesome all at the same time.

Well we filed back to our apartments, excited chatter lining the whole way, and I open my apartment door to five girls freakin out and saying how crazy it was to go skydiving.  A few were terrified, and I was just so excited for them even though I wasn't going.... or so I thought.  I was jumping around and talking about how stoked I would be when I am asked "are you going" by Michelle, I said no, because I hadn't planned on spending the money to go and I had already chosen to do a couple different activites that I would be spending money on.  Well to skip all the details I was talked into going skydiving, and I was ECSTATIC!  I was soooo excited, I began to email my Mom when she decided to Skype me, and then she wished she had't skyped me because I told her I was going skydiving, and she freaked out a little and got all worried like Moms do (Love you Mom!).  I then waited the hour until we had to leave the apartment and walk down to the Skydiving place.  We arrived at NZONE, paid for our "flight", filled out a paper, loaded onto one of their vans, and set out to their skydiving zone in the country.  It was about a fifteen minute ride, and we arrived in what looked like farmland (with ginormous mountains surrounding us), with nice, red, barn-like buildings.  (They didn't look exactly like barns- they were quite a bit nicer, but it had a country atmosphere).  We got off the van and our instructor walked up to us, gave us a two minute debriefing, then we had twenty minutes to sit around, use the restroom, and relax before our group headed into the building to start getting suited up!  Our of the ten of us, my group that would be on the plane and jumping with me included Rachel, Jordan, and Michelle.  We were so excited!

After sitting around for a bit and talking to our friends that had already jumped we were more than ready when our instructor took us into the open building (airplane hanger?) and gave us all jumpsuits to put on.  As we were waiting for our plane to land, we met our jumping instructors who put on our harnesses and gave us caps w/ goggles, and gloves.  Our jumping instructors would be strapped to us when we... well.. jumped.  But can I tell you:  My instructors name was Marius.  He was from South Africa, had an amazing accent, and was GORGEOUS!!!  He was a bit older, probably late twenties (POSSIBLY early thirties, though I doubted it), but I got lucky.  He was definitely a keeper..... I mean cutie.  (hehe).  Well anyways!  While we were still waiting Rachel's jumping lady took us outside to wait and showed us the proper position for when we jumped, and blah blah.  We chilled on a picnic table for a little bit with two of the professional jumpers and can I tell you that Michelle's jumping guy was hilarious!  He kept making jokes and messing with her, as in freakin her out about jumping, haha.

"How many times have you had to use the back up parachute?"--- "four times" --- "How many times have you skydived?" ---- "four"

hahaha, guess you had to be there.  There were many other jokes like that too.  He had actually jumped over 7,000 times.  My hottie-jumping instructor had jumped over 7,000 times as well (I found this out later as I was falling through the air).

Our plane finally landed and all of our jumping instructors walked out; we joined them and headed to the tiniest plane I had ever seen!  There was no way nine of us were fitting in this thing.  But one by one we squeezed on in there.  It was kind of awkward, but we sat in between eachothers legs; although this had to be done when they strapped us on to them in preparation for jumping.  As the last guy came in (he was a photographer jumping by himself-taking practice pictures) they shut the SEE THROUGH door and off we went.. we took off and headed high, high, high into the sky.  You could feel every turn in this plane.  But it was the most BEAUTIFUL plane ride ever.  I cannot even explain to you what it looked like from up there.  Big Mountains on all sides, the sun shining off the giant lake below us.  It was definitely "the most perfect day..... for skydiving"  :)

Our tiny plane took us up to 12,000ft in the air.  On our way up we all shimmied around trying to get hooked to our instructor sitting behind us, and trying to get our soft helmets, goggles, and gloves on.  When we reached our elevation a light on the roof in the inside of the plane went from green to red.  My instructor reminded me just to lay my legs outside of the plane and hold onto my harness, as I watched the photographer jump, and Jordan and her instructor follow, I was the second one in our Harding group out of the plane.  I put my legs outside of the plane and held on to my harness and next thing you know Marius had pushed us out and we were falling.

The actual feeling of falling in my stomach only lasted a split second, then it was just the most amazing thing.  Our free-fall time with 45 seconds.  It felt like longer, and I wish It had been longer.  Free-falling was fun, we spun around in circles and twirled and whatnot; fun stuff.  The parachute then opened jerking us back just a tiny bit and then we began to glide through the air.  Marius showed me were Queenstown was and named all the mountains (just basically told me what I was looking at).  Then we chit-chatted a bit before he told me that when we landed I needed to pull my legs up and hook my arms underneath and straiten my legs outward.  After that we continued down and landed.  I wish It would have lasted longer, it was so amazing.

After Marius unhooked me I had a bit of trouble standing up, haha.  But I stood up, high-fived Mario and headed back into the airplane hanger, met up with Jordan, then waited for Michelle and Rachel.  We then proceeded to take a few pictures in our suits..... and I took a picture with Mario (hehe).  Then we took off our suits collected our things, then waited in the lobby with some of our previous jumpers for the van to come and take us back into town.  We received a postcard, $50 off our next jump, ad a certificate! ha..

I still cannot believe this happened today!!!  We got back and it barely felt real.. once we were back in our normal, boring, school surrounding lives it was almost unbelievable.  But It is definitely something I will NEVER forget.  I cannot wait until I get to do that again! haha.  I definitely want to skydive again.  It was one of the most amazing things I have ever done.  And now I have to write an essay.  BOO!  But omgomgomg, I went skydiving.  I can't believe it.  Ahhhh, it was the most incredible thing I have ever done!  I just can't stop thinking about it!!!  It was just all so surreal...

    Peace to All <3

    NEW ZEALAND!!

Ok, so the previous post, I wrote in transition from Australia to New Zealand.  We arrived at the YMCA hostel in Christchurch, New Zealand just before dinner time.  After we settled into our private hostel rooms we proceeded downstairs to the dining area for dinner. The meal was satisfactory and all we had time to do that night was to souvenir shop (for they were the only stores still open) and then do a little homework(?) before hitting the pillow.  I was asleep by 1030.

Friday Morning breakfast was at 8 and we had free time until lunch at 1215.  I had set my alarm, but one of my lovely suite mates decided to turn it off for me.  Needless to say, I did not roll out of bed until 1020.  I was pretty peeved because I was supposed to meet up with a few people and hit a couple of stores.  Instead I got ready and headed out on the town by myself because no one I knew was in sight.  Although as I walked around and window shopped I became someone alleviated; I liked having that alone/ "me" time.  I did not have to wait around on people, I could go where I wanted, I have a very keen sense of direction so I did not have to argue with someone that they were going the wrong way; the list goes on.  Lunch was not nearly filling enough, but it held me through our museum tour and some more "shopping" during free time until dinner.  After dinner was a fun trip to the Maori Wildlife Conservation Center.  We learned a brief overview of the Maori culture and learned a lot about the endangered wildlife there.  But the real treat was the authentically dressed native Maori people who interacted with us in traditional ways (accurate to how they acted with the settlers who came in peace) and shared with us their welcoming, challenging/war, celebration, and grief hakas.  (the type of tribal dances they do)  It was very entertaining, I could have stayed and watched them much longer than the 20minutes.  After the initial contact when we came into their territory, and after our "chief" (Dr. Adams) made peace with their chief, we were pleased to know they all spoke English and were very friendly before seating us down so they could preform for us.  After the maori show and animal tour we were waiting in the little store/cafe for the rest of the group to get back (we were split up into two groups) and I experienced something so amazing.  There are these things here called Magnums; they are ice cream bars.  I had a Caramel Magnum; starting from the center it contained vanilla ice cream, a thin chocolate shell, caramel, and another chocolate covered shell around the outside.  It was one of the most delicious things I have ever put in my mouth.  Which is should have been, as it cost three dollars.

Saturday we all woke up early and headed down to breakfast around eight in the morning. Proceeding breakfast we walked down the road to the Christchuch Cathedral, and we had a guided tour.  After the tour portion we walked the 134 steps up the bell tower.  That was a workout!!  After our tour we filed on to the bus and we were given a city tour on our way to a "punting" place.  (Known to some as a gondola).  We all sat in canoes and a guy pushed us along with a stick.  It was so awesome, and very pretty!  We saw many ducks, but we also saw many many many little ducklings, they were without doubt the most adorable little things.  Once we were finished with our punting we traveled back on to the bus and toured around the city on our way to the REAL "gondola" where we got into a little cab and rode up the mountain side to see an amazing view.  It was FREEZING up there though, and very windy!  The view was still awesome though :)
We ate lunch within the little suburb anywhere we liked.  A fairly large group of us went to this place called Snappers (I believe that was the name).  It served fish and chips, although I bought a bacon cheeseburger.  It was the first burger I had on the entire trip until that day.  It started raining during our lunch so we had to run back to the bus, and we then ventured back to Christchurch for a little free time before dinner.  We tried to shop around a little but most stores were closed already, or about to close.  The one task we became successful at was finding some type of theater production to watch.  Us students that are using our humanities class to count for theater appreciation have to find some kind of theater production outside of class to go watch.  We also have to pay for this ourselves, how wonderful!  But we managed to find an Improve show called "Scared Scriptless"  It was without doubt the most funniest thing I have ever seen.  We all absolutely loved it.  At one point they asked the audience if anyone had traveled lately or if anyone was from overseas.  We all raised our hands, without so much as an acknowledgement and the host called on some chick who stated that she had recently traveled to America.  Where at in America?  DETROIT.  First off WHO in their right ming travels all the way to America to go to Detroit?  But this did enter for a humorous skit the improv team preformed.  It was funny watching how other countries perceived us.  What we got out of it was that America is full of fat people who eat too much, and gang bangers.  (Remember we were talking about Detroit).  To end the night we all returned to our hostels, finished packing, and went to sleep.

I was up by 545 the next morning, in time to make it to breakfast by six.  We were leaving the hostel by 7 and arriving to the airport before 8 to make our flight by 9.  Must we tell them how many items of clothing I had on this time?

    two bras.
    two tanktops.
    three tshirts.
    One long sleeved tshirt.
    two hooded shirt/sweatshirt.
    underwear.
    leggings/tights.
    three pairs of shorts.
    two paris of sweat pants.

I was also holding my jacket with two other smaller jackets inside.

Needless to say I was DETERMINED not to have an overweight charge.  I had to wear a little more in result of buying a couple souvenirs while I was in Christchurch.
Our flight lasted about an hour, most likely less.  I feel as if we were in the air for only half an hour.  Upon arriving we came strait to our new accommodations.  We are staying in one of the most glorious apartments I have ever seen.  It contains a huge kitchen, with TWO dishwashers, granite counters, and all stainless steel appliances, a 13ft wide and it seems like 30ft long living space (continuance of a living area, dining room, and living room; all open), three two person bedrooms, and two full baths, with HEATED tile floors, as well as a laundry area.  Its amazing!!  It is very beautifully furnished and painted with many windows on along the wall facing the mountains.  Thus meaning that we have a view of the mountains.  If we were higher up we would also have a view of the lake, but as we are the trees are somewhat blocking our view.
We had an hour or so to begin settling in before we had lunch at the college and before we went on our grocery shopping adventure.  During this event we had a nice light SNOWfall, which was fun to see, although it did not stick to the ground. In between shopping and our sunday service we had several hours of freetime.  I used this time to take a shower and STRAIGHTEN my hair for the first time on this trip, and to relax some.  We had service in our apartment, as it is one of the most spacious and luxurious apartments out of the bunch.  After service I mostly worked on homework and went to bed.

We only had a half a day of classes on Monday, so I slept in until 1045.  After rolling out of bed and cleaning myself up I worked on homework and ate and relaxed until class.  Class, smlash... we came back for dinner then by 7 we had to head back to watch a movie for humanities.  It was alright, and it allowed us to not have class today!  The movie lasted a little over two hours and for the remaining hours of the night I worked my little fingers to the bone, typing things for my bible research paper.

    FINALLY to Today!!  (Tuesday)
I was up and awake by 740, and I hurried to get ready and out the door to make it by class at eight.  Don't worry, I wasn't the only one leaving the apartment for class at this time.  Class was not very long, two of our classes got canceled so we had a short day!  We were done by lunch.  Since then I have skyped my parents, and eaten lunch, and that is about it! :)

Welp, I am FINALLY all caught up on my blog!  Now its time for more homework and catching up on school before we have everyone over (whoever wanted to come) to watch the first Lord of the Rings movie before we go horseback riding throughout the LOTR country!!  (Places where they filmed LOTR here in New Zealand).  Needless to say I am super excited!

Last Blog from Australia (although I was technically already gone.. I wrote this on the airplane)

Ok, so I don’t have internet right now, thus I cannot remember which day I left off on in my blog.  I am also unsure of when I will have internet next; but I will post this as soon as I can!

    Wednesday- Present.
Classes ALL day long.. GROSS.  I am pretty sure I already talked about my all nighter.  Well I definitely did not pull a second one.  I went to bed late because I was finishing up a project but got to actually sleep for a handful of hours.  I almost fell asleep in class though, during humanities.  It wasn’t that it was boring, but only having a total of 7 hours of sleep or LESS between the past two nights.. I was just exhausted.  I mailed out TWO postcards!!  Guess you will just have to wait a couple of weeks or so and see if your one of the lucky ones :)  I also bought a coffee for five bucks.. Wish I would have known the REAL price before I ordered it.  The sign said 3.80!  Oh well.  Since I ended up not going whale watching/to the island I had a good hundred (150?) dollars left, so I decided a tiny splurge wouldn’t hurt me too much.  After classes were finitO it was back to the apartment to start cleaning, and packing for…. NEW ZEALAND!  It was somewhat bitter sweet.  I wasn’t quite ready to leave.. And you could definitely tell that by walking into my room.. Clothes EVERYWHERE!  But FIRST it was time to put our Jerseys on before the sun went down to take pictures on the beach since most of us ahdn’t yet.  It was a lot of fun, having a little club photo shoot.  After that we went back to the apartment, cooked our last supper (French toast & syrup) then it was time for our last Devo on the Australian beach.  It went well, then back to the apartment.. Finished a paper I had, cleaned the apartment some, attempted to try and pack…. BUT then it was Glee time!!  So everything else had to wait.  We headed to meet with the boys and we watched Glee, It was a really good episode, although a complete turnaround from the previous week’s Brittany Spears dedicated episode; last nights was about spirituality and beliefs, etc.  It was actually really good, and politically correct:  It gave a viewpoint and opinion from all sides.  Anywho, after Glee it was almost midnight and It was time to finish packing.. ugh.  I didn’t exactly do that.. I put it off for the most part.  Actually, for all of the part.  Ha.. I would pack and then do something else, and then try and pack a little more.  (Oh and please keep in mind I still had clothes in the dryer and this was the first day I had attempted to pack.. should have started five days before!)  I packed on and off through the night, until sometime around 4?  I was FINALLY finished with completely EVERYTHING, and I hit the hay for about an hour and twenty minutes.  We were to be completely packed, outside, and getting into the bus at 530AM.  I am just glad I got to sleep for the (approx.) two hour bus ride to the airport.. I knocked out!  We arrived at the airport this morning around 730, and then basically sat around for two hours, then FINALLY were able to check in.. with 15minutes left until our plane started boarding!  We hadn’t even gone through security or customs yet.. JOY!  But we made it in time, and now I am sitting on the plane with a full belly, over halfway to New Zealand.

Ok, now for side notes.. I had to break away from packing for about an hour around One AM, to complete a challenge.  It was soo much fun!  And it felt so freeing! Hahaha.. Its tradition with most overseas programs.  You will know what I am talking about if your from Harding.. There are a few campus challenges at Harding as well.  I will proudly admit that I have completed one of them!  And now I have completed One out of THREE of the challenges we will master on this trip.  Why three you ask?  One for each country we go to!  Granted we are counting Southeast Asia as a whole.  Maybe we should say one challenge for each leg of our trip.

Other side note.  I was an AMAZING packer last night.. after it took me upmh-teen hours to finish it.  I packed my suitcase WELL though.. It was even underweight!  Until I decided to move a few things from my carry-ons to my suitcase.. then it was overweight.  But one way I was able to amazingly succeed at staying within the weight limits.. I layered.  Layered what, you ask?  Clothes!  Lets see I had on:

    Two bras – 1 regular, 1 sports
    Two ribbed tanks
    Two tshirts
Two longsleeved/hooded shirts (one was like a tshirt the other like a sweatshirt)
Two Jackets (one more of a cardigan, the other was my main jacket)
    One pair of underwear
    One pair of footed leggings
    THREE pairs of shorts
    One pair of tennis shoes

I believe that was it!  Oh and I had a shirt or two stuck in the pockets of my Jacket.. haha.  I felt fine for a while at first, but later was BURNING UP!  It was like I had died and gone to heaven when I finally reached customs, after the security and was able to strip down!  Although I had to finish on the plane.. taking off a bra, leggings, and two pairs of shorts in public would not have been the best idea.. I am just glad that I had literally nothing packed in my orange bag this time around, because ALL of my clothes except for maybe five of those items went into that bag :) Gotta do whatcha gotta do!

Well since I have only had about a total of ten hours of sleep this whole week I think I am going to attempt to rest for a little while.  I hope to hear from everyone soon!!  If you have skype PLEASE go ahead and add me!  My user name is La_Russell.. or La_Russell09 haha, I don’t remember.  Try both!  :)

PEACE & BLESSINGS!  (next time I talk/write to you I will be in New Zealand!!)

Ok, so as you can see I had a lot of coffee last night.. Only four of them were mine.  But they were sufficient in keeping me awake until six in the morning so I could finish some homework that I never knew I had!  How wonderful... I had a two page SINGLE spaced theater criticism sheet.  Wish I would have realized it was due with our first Journal check.  I thought it was due at the end of the semester; because I thought we had to do only two out of the five options.. and whatever, no more excuses.  I also had a speech test to study for and more journal entries to write, among a couple other things.. So needless to say I was up very late.. But I wasn't the only one!

I got to watch the sun rise this morning though.. It was one of the most gorgeous things I have ever seen :)  I absolutely loved it.

Soooo I probably should get back to finishing up my journals or I should take a nap for a bit.  I slept for about a total of an hour last night/this morning... I just wanted to fit a blog in here while I can.  Tonight we will be having our farewell dinner.  Tomorrow night we are having classes and then packing and such and Thursday we depart for the airport at 545 in the AM.  Yes, in the morning.. BRIGHT & EARLY!  We will be headed to new Zealand for the next three weeks!  Kind of a bittersweet feeling.  I'm not ready to leave the Gold Coast just quite yet.  but we'll be back in Australia in a few weeks!

Ok.. time to take a quick nap and then journals before class!  Peace be with you :)

All nighter!! Four of those are mine... But they're only one dollar each! :)

Ok, I left off on Wednesday so I will start with Thursday now!

    THURSDAY:
classes all day... again.  Then we had a THREE HOUR night lecture from one of our tour guides about our South East Asia tour... I mean it was interesting but I just had a lot of other things that I needed to get done.  So we didnt get back to the apt until around 10 that night.. and I stayed up till almost two again finishing up my speech that was due the next day.. ugh.

    FRIDAY:
Had classes for half of the day.. My speech went alright that morning.  I need to stand a bit more still, and I should have practiced my speech.. I just didn't have time:  I finished writing my notecards like ten minutes before my speech.. haha.  But She said I did good!  Hopefully I'll see my grade for it tomorrow.  After classes I came back and made lunch and chilled.. and later Me, Rachel, Jami, and Andrea made our way over to the bus station and then to Harbourtown (outlet mall).. and omg.. The bus was $4.70!  ahhh!!  For a student its supposed to be 1.90 but the grouchy driver wouldn't accept our international student IDs... so whatever.  I bought a $40 dollar brown, leather belt for only $10!!  So that was steal.. And I got two coloured Vneck tshirts w/ a pocket 2/$10.. so not too bad!  [side note: just noticed that I am starting to automatically type the "ou" in words that normally 'we' spell with just an "o".. Its an Aussie thing.. I'm seeing it too much that I am actually doing it.. ha]  But the outlets overall kind of let us down!  We went to a few different name brand stores and they just didn't have what we were looking for at all.  So oh well.. at least I wasn't tempted to spend a whole lot of money.  After Harbourtown (how they spell it here!) We took the one our bus journey back to broadbeach.. Oh and there was this SMOKIN HOT guy on our bus.. lol.  He looked like Christiano Ronaldo; hehe.  He got off a stop before us though.. When we got off we went and ordered a pizza with my buy one get one free coupon.. Ok another side note:  They have MUCH MUCH MUCH BETTER DEALS here than we do!! I'll get to that underneath another day... The only other thing I did that day was study and watch a movie with the girls :)

    SATURDAY:
After sleeping in until TWO in the afternoon.. I finally got up and did not do a whole lot.. It was a really relaxing day.  Around three, Laura, Rachel, Chelsea, and I walked around town a little and looked in the stores.. I bought a couple little souvenirs and some postcards.. A total of maybe 5 dollars.. Then we headed back to the apt to make ourselves dinner and to study and little.. I made myself some homemade mac&cheese! :)  It was good!  Later that night, even though I had things to do and I was in the laziest mood ever!!  Andrea coaxed me into dressing cute and heading out to Surfers Paradise to..... well... I'll leave that up to your imagination; haha.  We had a lot of fun though!  Even though it was raining.. Jamie, Andrea, Ashley, Sun, and I took a bus there.. later Taylor, Stacey, Jess, and Jordan met up with us.. and I walked back along the beach with the second group.. It was about a 20min walk, but it was fun!  Walking barefoot on the beach in our dresses :)

SUNDAY:  woke up at 930.  It was raining.... OF COURSE!  (we had not had one good day for the beach yet.. when we weren't busy with other things first)  But around 11 a bunch of us decided to go play on the playgrounds in the rain.. The playgrounds are WAYYYYY cooler than ours are; just to throw that out there!  They're awesome... and even more awesome in the rain.  So we did that, then played in the ocean while it was raining, and then got in the heated tub & hot tub at our apartments when we got back :D  It was a lot of fun!!  Then we all went back to our apts to make food then took our food to one person's apt to eat together... Later we were planning on going to Hillsong (Christian church/group that originates in Australia) but that was this big ordeal that didn't work out.. maybe I'll throw the details on here later.. So we decided to go back to our rooms and study or do whatever for a bit before our church service in the Mill's room.  Church/Communion lasted about an hour and a half, and we had snack afterwards.. Thennnn I hung out with Carter, Barrett, Jim, ad Christy in the apt and watched TV and listened to music and just hung out... thennnn later went to my apt, met up with Laura, Carter, Taylor, Marcus, and Ellis and we took a little adventure to the 7/11 where I bought a coffee for ONE dollar and a soda... ok we got two one liter sodas for 5 bucks.. these both cost like 450 each.. we got two for five.. that was their deal!  Which made no sense because the smaller sizes were 370.. so whateverrrr, I wasn't complaining!! :)  So I took my cheap soda and coffee back to the room and I worked on homework while everyone else watched a movie.. Later Savannah and I headed up to the 16th floor and watched Lost with a few of the boys because we were bored..
OK!!! So about three in the morning last night/ sunday night/ monday morning.. and Michelle and I were standing in the kitchen... She was facing me and I was facing the window when all the sudden I look out and see this giant blue/green flash of light!  I screamed for her to look but by the time she turned around it was gone.. She was laughing hysterically at me, and I was trying to convince her it was real when it happened again!  This time is just wasn't as bright and by the time I got her to look it was gone again.... can I say WEIRDEST thing I have seen in my entire life!!!! I want to know what It was soooooo bad.. I even googled it, but didn't really get any answers.. It was just so surreal.. It was weird.  I can't explain it.. Just a blue/green flash and it was gone.. I thought it was lightning at first.. but it wasn't.. Guess I'll never know.. But it was real.. Not matter how much everyone else thinks I am nuts I know it was real!

MONDAY:  woke up around 930.. or 10. and...... get this...... IT WAS SUNNY!! For the first time in two weeks it was nice enough for the beach.. and It wasn't just nice, it was WONDERFUL!  It was the best beach day EVER.  We headed out around 1030 and stayed until a little after 12 before we walked back to the apt to make lunch and I had a skype date ;-)  Then around 2 something I walked back to the beach and layed out a while longer and we had ourselves a little photo shoot! I absolutely loved today.. I love the beach!

Now I am freshly showered and sitting on the couch writing this instead of doing homework.. I have tons to do!  So I am going to bid you all farewell!  And It wont be that long before the next time I blog... I PROMISE!!!  We've just been jammed packed with work this past week or so.  But its about to chill out for me at least a little bit.  Hope you all have a wonderful night/day!! Much Love <3

    Sunday, October 3, 2010

Ok, so like I haven't been on here in a week.  I am TERRIBLY sorry!  But now I am back to catch everyone up!  I have just been so busy with school work Its been insane.

    SUNDAY:
Left early in the morning for Mrs. Pam's church in Brisbane called Cleveland Church of Christ.  It was a lot of fun getting to meet people of our own faith here.  And the service was good!  Afterwards we had a little afternoon tea.  It wasn't a potluck because it was just finger foods.  Anywho.. after church we made our way to the hostel.  Which was really nice by the way, we had private rooms.  We all just kinda hung out there.. took naps.. had dinner.. hung out with everyone for a long time/ watched tv.. did a little homework, and went to bed.  [Oh and did I mention we didnt have internet!?  It was such a bummer because a lot of us had work we needed to do with the computer.. it was 10 dollars a day.. was not about to pay for internet.. ha]

    MONDAY:
Went on a bus tour around the city.. So that was fun; went to a cathedral, and some other places.  After the bus tour we went to a couple of art Galleries.  Then had dinner at a casino!! haha.. It was a buffet.  Pretty good, a lot better than the last casino we went to.  Thennnnn it was back to our hostels to do as we wished.  Most of us just did more homework and then hung out in our little lobby area.  And ok.. there was an Australian Cricket team from Sydney staying in the hostel.. (they were in High School sooo too young for us to hit on, haha.  even though one of the guys was 18/a senior and he was really good looking! hehe).  but we hung out in our lobby/lounge area and talked to them for a long time about lingering questions we've had about things in Australia, and they asked us questions.. etc etc.  it was a lot of fun though!

TUESDAY:  woke up at the butt crack of dawn, packed our things, and filed into the bus.  After stopping at a gas/food station for breakfast we made our way to the AUSTRALIAN ZOO!!  It was the home of Steve Irwin (The Crocodile Hunter).  It was a lot of fun!  We took our picture with a koala and we got to pet & feed kangaroos!  Among other things.. Also the whole Irwin family was there!!  His Widow Terry, and their two children Bindi and Robert.  It was so cool getting to see them and getting to watch the converse and then feed crocodiles!!  I'll have pictures up on fbook soon, I promise!  We left the Zoo around 300 and went to a place called the glass mountains.. just a vista point/look out to take pictures.. Then we went to this little shopping village and looked around.. it was fun.  Then we had a two hours bus ride to get home.  Went to bed pretty quickly after that! Actually no I didnt.. I worked on my Bibliography that was

WEDNESDAY:  classes all day... then we went out to an Italian restaurant for dinner for Andrea's 21st birthday!!  The food was really good.  I split a lasagna meal with Victoria.  After that we went up to the 16th floor apt and watched GLEE with all our glee friends! haha.  I love our Glee parties.. Then I just chilled in our Apt doing homework.. I had a speech to write and and Bibliography to finish.  Among a few other things.. So needless to say I was up until about 2am, with an 8am class in the morning.... fun!?  Not at all!A

finish up later!! sorry!  Its FINALLY SUNNY OUTSIDE!!!! :D  soooo we're going to the beach!
